From L.D.         Acupuncture helps low back pain and a skin ulcer
I am a seventy year-old woman. I went to the Houston Acupuncture and Herb Clinic because of low back pain and a skin ulcer that I've had for many years. In the past I had seen acupuncturists for over 20 years. I have seen lots of acupuncturists who only seemed to give me a black pill that only helped a little bit.

I previously thought alternative medicine is always being slow to get result. Acupuncturist Wu, however, changed my mind. He is far more educated and really knows how to help people. Chinese medicine actually is very powerful, and the results are very fast too. It depends on who you see, how they prepare treatments, and whether or not they know what is the proper dosage and experiences, etc.

In their clinics, every single formula comes from their knowledge. When I was in the patient room, Acupuncturist Wu discussed all my problems and medical history as he is formulating some herbs on my chart. He told me that the specific formula he made for me is a combination of individual herbs, not like the pills that are pre-made for all people. Wu explained that pre-made herbal formulae contain a lot of unnecessary ingredients that are not necessarily right for me. He obviously has a lot of training and experience.
For many years from my past experiences, all the acupuncturists I saw previously gave me are the pre-made patterned herbs. Since I came to this clinic, I begin to realize the herb formulas have to make proper ingredients and percentage that can give tremendous effects to the body system. I have never seen any acupuncturist prepare my formula in front of me. He is the first one.
My skin ulcer has been there for many years, with no medicine ever helping my skin to heal. It always has been an ulceAcupuncture Point Modelr with pus and draining. Since I went to this clinic and saw Acupuncturist Wu, my ulcer is getting smaller with a lot less draining. It is healing up! I also had stomach problems. I am not able to eat anything spicy. I went to many doctors but found no help. After I went to see Acupuncturist Wu, my stomach now is 85% better. I can sleep well at night now - something that was not possible before. Recently my leg had been very weak, with me hardly able to stand up. After two treatments, I can walk just like a normal person.

From Katherine M.    Acupuncture stopped my pain due to ovarian cysts.

I came to see Dr. Wu with ovarian cysts on my right side, which were causing intermittent pain in the abdomen and even down into my leg as far as the knee. I had been through tests and medicines, none of which seemed to really address the problems or pain I had been feeling off and on for the past year. From the first needle, when my right ovary suddenly stopped hurting, I knew I had found the right acupuncture treatment. I could see my skin clearing and felt a rush of energy and focus that I never expected. The experience has been so eye-opening and Dr. Wu so very kind. I would recommend this to anyone who has pain or discomfort and has grown frustrated with what medicine can do. This approach works!!

back pain acupuncture houstonAs acupuncture and herbs may be a new experience for you, rest assure that years of training about ancient, time-honored procedures have prepared our practitioners to serve you with the highest quality of care you expect and deserve. In our acupuncture clinic only the brand new, pre-sterilized one time use disposable stainless steel needles are used. Our clinic uses the finest quality needles in the world. They are FDA registered, sterilized, and have expiration dates. We dispose of all needles properly after each use. With tubes, the insertion of needles is much faster and lesser pain than before. Usually, the patient experiences no pain. Sometimes, a patient might feel soreness, itching, coldness, warmness, an electric-shock feeling, etc. In general, the patient will have a feeling of comfort.

One of the oldest and most commonly practiced medical procedures used in the world, acupuncture is an art form that has gained attention and respect from many practitioners of Western medicine. Originating in China about 5,000 years ago, Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) presents us with an extraordinary depth of knowledge about the eloquent and interdependent systems of the body. The practices of acupuncture and use of herbs are just one component of Traditional Chinese Medicine whereby restoring health and harmony is the result of a holistic approach to healing, by considering the "unified language" of all body systems and one's experiences. By doing so, Traditional Chinese Medicine strives to treat not only the symptoms, such as pain, but the root of the matter, as well.

The TCM theory of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is based on the fundamental concepts of patterns of energy flow or "Qi", throughout the body. Qi helps maintain the vital functions of all organs and systems within one's body and, therefore, both governs and creates everything. When Qi is blocked or otherwise not flowing optimally, pain and illness can result. Therefore, Qi flow is required for good constitution and health. Acupuncture manipulates Qi to improve and regulate the energy functioning of one's organ systems, to release stresses Houston Acupuncturethat create disease and pain, and to balance the body's electrical network. By doing so, acupuncture can boost the immune system and encourage the body in its innate ability for self-healing. The acupuncturist's duty is to assist your body by changing the direction of your Qi, removing obstacles to the free flow of Qi and adjusting the volume of Qi moving through certain areas.

Acupuncture is frequently used in combination with herbs, which are used primarily to nourish the organs' structure nutritionally. Most of the time, people seek acupuncture treatments as a way to alleviate pain commonly associated with many diseases. T he safety and efficacy of acupuncture is recognized world-wide by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a viable medical practice. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO), has recognized acupuncture as an appropriate treatment for more than 40 conditions, such as those pertaining to digestive disorders, respiratory, Neurological, muscular, and urinary ailments.

Houston Acupuncture and Herb ClinicIn addition, the NIH panel found evidence supporting that acupuncture can help menstrul cramps, headaches, fibromyalgia, arthritis and back pain. In addition, it is used to treat carpal tunnel, addictions, asthma and for rehabilitation of stroke victims. Finally, accupucture is used to alleviate nausea associated with pregnancy, chemotherapy and anesthesia.

Today, modern acupuncture has significantly improved in meridians, points, and techniques, as well as its clinical application and studies. There are many research projects studying the anatomical structure beneath the meridian and acupuncture points to determine the depth, angle, and stimulation of the needle to prevent accidental injury to organs and the Qi. Ancient medical literatures are being studied heavily to improve clinical outcomes and acupuncture mechanism through modern scientific methodology.

Its purpose is to help patients enhance the metabolism and decrease their appetite, while not causing fatigue or energy loss, headaches or diarrhea. sinus infection acupuncture houstonAfter dealing with weight problems, many patients choose to use acupuncture and herbs to take care of other health difficulties, especially as they learn more about the practice of traditional Chinese Medicine, and become more in touch with their bodies.

Of course, we do not guarantee your weight loss, but we feel our program is sensible and very supportive, and will give us the chance to establish the respect and good feelings, which are essential for positive changes to be made.

anxiety acupuncture houstonQuit Smoking Acupuncture Program
Acupuncture has proven very effective in helping people to quit smoking. Our program consists of acupuncture treatments plus herbs. We insert needles in the body and ear. After each treatment, we may place "seed needles" in one ear, and instruct the patient to press the seeds quite hard to relax the diaphram and reduce the desire to smoke.

Frequently, with nervous smokers, we may recommend herbs to calm the mind.

Of course, we do not guarantee your success, but our percentage rate of smokers who quit and remain free of the addiction is quite high. Many people are able to greatly reduce or quit after only one treatment, but our experience is that it is very easy to pickup the habit again within a couple of weeks. This is why we recommend a minimum of three treatments, with herbs.

The first few days after the initial treatment are crucial to quitting. If the desire to smoke becomes unbearable during this period, we recommend you call us immediately for an appointment for acupuncture.

Excess coffee and alcohol play a part in the smoking addiction, and we recommend that smokers seriously consider cutting down or stopping this use also to facilitate their quitting smoking.

TESTIMONIAL: ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT FOR SMOKING - G. W., Accountant (age 56)
I'd been smoking 5 years when Dr. Wu first treated me for the 2nd time in 1989 with acupuncture to help me quit smoking, he asked me why I picked up another cigarette after stopping only for 6 hours the first time. He was incredulous when I told him that my destiny was to smoke for 21 years, just like my Dad, but that being able to remember what it was like to be a non-smoker, even for just 6 hours was wonderful.

So, for the next 16 years, Dr. Wu and Jannie Chiang treated me, adding needle treatments for sinusitis and bronchial problems with herbal oils and herbs. And while they did get a bit frustrated with my inability to stay off cigarettes, they never became angry or went over the line; they stayed supportive and hopeful the whole time, even when I suffered from the most rancid breath ever, a strong allergic response to smoking.

Whenever I'd suffer from stress problems and my smoking went up from 11 cigarettes to a pack or a pack-and-a half
(11→20, 30) a day, I'd come see them, get acupuncture, and drop back down to a 9-11 a day. And the relaxation benefits of needling lasted me at least 3 days, improving my home and work life.

I finally quit smoking August 13, 2005 at 8:20am, after seriously planning the event for a year. Over a 3 week period, I cut the number of cigarettes down and down, I took off a couple of days from work, did some yoga and lots of deep breathing, and then got acupuncture, kept my hands in my lap, took a bit of aspirin, did a lot more deep breathing, smoked my last one, and didn't buy any more ever again. Smoking impulses came and went as chemical processes rebalanced themselves. Retraining the hand-mouth neural pathways was very challenging, as was throwing away cigarette lighters. I went on a week long vacation to Missouri to break free from the patterns associated with work, convenience store, etc. I developed tools of the imagination to help free me from the smoking burden, like imagining a Samurai Warrior in front of me with a sword parrying away, defending me against, and rejecting unhealthy thoughts.bap, bap, bap, just like I did when I was a child.

And more than a year later, the smoking impulse still occasionally hits, but the smokers' areas outside my building stinks worse and worse, and the attraction continues to lessen.

My body loved the way acupuncture made it feel from the very first time. Meditative, forced to be still. Attentive to relaxation responses and breath releases. Aligned inside and outside. Like 2 yoga sessions back to back. Or a couple of hours of massage. Nice, very nice.

electro-acupunctureElectro-acupuncture
Electro-acupuncture is a form of acupuncture that, relatively speaking, has recently come into use and is an increasingly popular form of treatment used by practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine. Some scholars believe electro-acupuncture was first used in the early 1800's by physicians in France and Italy. Others believe it started in the 1940's when Japanese scientists were interested in making bone fractures heal more quickly. Still, others claim that electro-acupuncture developed in 1958, when acupuncturists in China began to employ it as a form of pain relief.

Acupressure houstonMoxibustion
Moxibustion has been used for 2000 years throughout Asia. The purpose of moxibustion is to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of qi, and maintain general health. As an external treatment in acupuncture therapy, moxibustion uses moxa to apply heat to certain locations on the body to treat and prevent disease. This supports the healthy flow of blood and Qi by transmitting heat through the meridians and organs.

Moxibustion is suggested when acupuncture, herbal medicine, and medication fails to treat the disease. Moxa is the most commonly used material for moxibustion today because it is able to expel dampness and coldness through the meridian and replenishes Yin or Yang to the critical condition.

Moxibustion has been clinically tested and is a proven method for treating disease. Considerable effect has been made in treating hepatitis B and hypertenstion with moxibustion.

Ear acupunctureEar acupuncture (auriculoacupunctute)
Some of the earliest written accounts of auriculo-acupuncture (ear acupuncture) date back to procedures practiced in 500 BC.

Auricultherapy, or ear acupuncture, is a traditional variation of acupuncture. It is a method of diagnosis and treatment using the ear as a localized map of bodily organs. Some of the meridian lines of energy flow connect to the external ear, creating this map of a localized reflex system connected to the central nervous system. Auriculo-acupuncture treats and prevents disease by stimulating points on the outside of the ear with needles. A filiform needle is usually used. However, electric acupuncture, aqua acupuncture, intradermal needle therapy, seedbedding method and bleeding method are also utilized. Careful sterilization is employed before and after the procedure to prevent infection. Having broad clinical application, auricular acupuncture is used to treat painful diseases, inflammatory diseases, endocrine and metabolic diseases, allergic diseases, auricular acupuncture anesthesia, and in the cessation of addictions.

There are over 120 points on each ear for which specific parts of the body are related. Therefore, it is thought that the ear is crossed by all major meridians.

Cupping
In ancient time of China, cupping was another type of treatment used. The horn cup and the ceramic cup were used in this method. Today, a variation of cups are commonly used, such as those made from glass or bamboo.

cupping houstonThere are different methods to this treatment including fire cupping, water cupping, and air cupping. All methods create a partial vacuum over the affected area, or meridian, which has become congested. This causes increase blood flow and opens the meridians, enhancing Qi and promoting the healing process. Generally, the cup is left on the affected area for about 15 minutes or less until blood flow improves.

Even today, this method is still used due to it's effectiveness and because it is not invasive. Cupping is recommended for pain, cough, asthma, paralysis, and gastro-intestinal disorders, to name a few.
